Plan Ahead for Summer Day Camp

June 9—August 15 (10 weeks)

Mike Rickert, Marsha Pigga:  Day Camp Directors

The Greater Scranton YMCA Day Camp is a summer experience designed to give children an introduction to camping, as well as to enable them to have fun, grow productively, clarify values, develop specific skills, improve personal and family relationships, become leaders and supporters, appreciate diversity and reinforce character development.  Many times children find themselves out of school with nothing to do.  Many working parents must find structured programs for their children.  Day Camp offers children education, recreation and the experience of working together as a group.

We have Four summer camp programs available:

1. Camp Discovery (Boys & Girls entering 1st-2nd grades)  Campers will have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities such as arts & crafts, various sports, swimming, field games and theme activities.  Activities will emphasize teamwork allowing each camper to develop self-confidence while traveling on weekly field trips.

2. Camp Explorer (Boys & Girls entering 3rd-4th grades)  Campers are fully immersed in the camp experience.  While in their groups they will participate in all activity areas such as arts & crafts and various ports, swimming, field games, challenge activities, theme activities and weekly field trips.  Campers will learn and develop character values of Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility

3. Camp Voyager (Boys & Girls entering 5th-7th grades)  Campers will be introduced to leadership qualities by participating in character value activities and games.  These will include traditional camp activities such as arts & crafts, various sports, swimming, field games, and theme activities while on their weekly field trips.

4. Kinder Kamp (Open to children ages 3, 4, & 5)  Kinder Kamp is the Greater Scranton YMCA’s day damp designed to meet the needs and interests of pre-school children.  Activities are based on weekly themes.  Gym activities and swim time are included.  Children will remain at the Y for all activities.  Full day or half day available.  CHILDREN MUST BE TOILET TRAINED.  (NO SWIM DURING “LEARN-TO-SWIM”)
